Enter Path of Exile: Synthesis, the latest expansion to the ever-growing action RPG. Here, we list some useful tips to ensure you have a good start in the Path of Exile Synthesis Alliance.
1. Memory, All Alone In The Moonlight
Path of Exile: Synthesis introduces you to a brand new NPC, Cavas. The mysterious and ghostly apparition has forgotten his past save for a few key details. Cavas tasks you with unlocking his past via the Memory Nexus.
Unlocking more of Cavas' memories lets you learn more about his story and his connection to Wraeclast.
The ghostly Cavas needs your help to figure out who he is and where all the good fishing spots are.
While you're killing monsters and traversing the dungeon, a "wall of blue of death" slowly envelops you. You'll need to fight your way to stabilize these areas.
The dungeons in the Memory Nexus disappear over time if you keep re-running the same areas though you can repair them. Likewise, they all have their own modifiers, and you can even piece together new pathways to unlock faraway sections. You can even "amplify" a memory node to double the effect of mods.
2. Fractured Items
Decaying memories yield Fractured Items with broken mods that are locked in place. While these are not generally useful as-is, you'll find occasional Fractured Items that have excellent locked mods, resulting in much easier crafting.
3. The Synthesiser
In the Memory Nexus lies the Synthesiser, a powerful device that lets you destroy Fractured Items to create base types with custom implicit mods. These implicit mods are somewhat controllable by careful choice of input items to consume.
4. Spellcasting Rebalance
The synthesis also contains a complete balance overhaul of all spells in Path of Exile, six new Chaos and Holy spells and significant incentives for hand-casting including several new support gems.
5. New Chaos And Holy Spells
Speaking of Chaos Orbs, or rather Chaos in general, Path of Exile: Synthesis will introduce a number of new Chaos-based spells. These are the "Soulrend" and "Divine Ire" spell.
The Soulrend and Divine Ire are just two out of six new skills coming to Path of Exile: Synthesis. There will also be a handful of support gems to compliment your style of play.
6. New Archetypes And Revamps
The Chaos Spellcaster and Holy Spellcaster are new archetypes being added in the Path of Exile: Synthesis. These spellcaster archetypes focus on "hindcasting" their magic attacks. These additions work alongside a revamp of certain skills to make hand casting more viable for players.
7. New Unique Items
Path of Exile: Synthesis will add 16 new unique items. One of these is The Eternity Shroud. The unique chest armor triggers the "Glimpse of Eternity" effect when hit. This causes a time bubble to appear around the player, slowing down enemies by up to 40 percent. It can change the dynamics of the game since you'd want to go around catching enemies inside a bubble to deter them.
8. Choose a Cheap Build
Spell-based builds tend to be less gear-reliant than attack-based builds as a large portion of the damage they deal comes from the base properties of the gems they use. Choosing a safe spell-based build (such as a totem-focused Heirophant) is a great way to get an early foothold in a league.
9. Go Against the Flow
If you plan on trading for items, choosing an off-meta build is the way to go. By choosing a build few others are playing you are guaranteed to have access to all the key items at a significant discount and can sell items you're not using at a premium.
10. Spend Money to Make Money
Buying items from other players requires that you have currency PoE, so it is a good idea to save what you find. Keep an eye out for items with the right sockets, because in the long run, it is probably better to spend one Alch on some extra stats that will push you into the endgame faster than several Jeweller's Orbs on an item you'll soon replace anyway.
11. High-Risk, High-Reward
According to Grinding Gear Games' head honcho Chris Wilson, the Memory Nexus gameplay would emphasize its high-risk, high-reward nature.
You can try to piece together a route that leads to a memory node and more rewards.
Another factor is the rewards from each memory node. If there's a reward that's close enough, you can just go for it quickly. Some rewards/memory node locations, though, will require longer pathways that you need to traverse.
12. Stash Good Leveling Items
Many players play multiple characters per league. It's a no-brainer to keep a Goldrim around for leveling alternate characters, but it's less obvious to keep an eye out for good low-level rares as you blow through early acts. A low-level rare weapon with high damage can make leveling your Juggernaut so easy it almost feels like cheating.
13. Use Your Crafting Bench
Any spare mod slot on an item is an opportunity to speed up your leveling. Extra life, mana, attributes or resistances can solve almost any problem you're likely to run up against. Whenever you find a new item you want to use, it's worth seeing what you can craft onto it.
14. Check the Vendors
Check vendors whenever you happen to be in town and by the time you hit maps you may have a lot more socket-modifying currency to experiment with.
15. Stash Quality Gems
Getting the quality of your skill and support gems up can be time-consuming, so stashing gems with quality that you may use on another character is a great way to shortcut this process.
16. A Unique Collection
Sometimes a build falls into your lap, but if you vendor every unique you don't want to use, you may not even realize it. By stashing build-defining Unique items, when the time comes to start your second character, your build maybe 90-percent of the way there.
17. It's Dangerous To Go Alone!
Playing with a mix of classes ensures that all the best item drops go unwasted, and the right gear filters to the right people.
18. Know When You've Hit a Wall
This is the trickiest one – characters starting from scratch may not always make it to the absolute endgame, and that's OK. It can be frustrating to hit your head against that wall over and over again, watching your experience bar grind to a standstill, but that's why you've stashed all those strong weapons, quality gems and build-defining unique items. Make a new character and see how much farther you can go this time.
